Position Title: Supervisor, Software Quality Assurance

JOB SUMMARY:

The SQA Supervisor establishes and maintains and adherence to the software quality assurance testing standards, procedures, and processes.  This role plans and directs the allocation of resources across weekly incremental releases and project sprint development deliverables aiming for zero defect production implementations. 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and lead the software system testing process, programming, projects and documentation.
  • Develop departmental policies and standard operating procedures, as needed, to effectively execute the principles and responsibilities of software quality assurance.
  • Provides guidance and subject matter expertise to IT teams on SQA methodologies and processes, educates them on their responsibilities/accountabilities for the purpose of achieving on-time and quality deliverables.
  • Responsible for assuring that output from the software development process includes adequate identification and interpretation of product requirements, such as a) traceability requirements, b) test requirements, c) usability, etc.
  • Ensure appropriate scheduling of software quality resources/personnel to projects.
  • Ensure adequate software product testing prior to implementation.
  • Review product design documentation to ensure that requirements stated are correct, unambiguous, verifiable, and testable.
  • Consult with product development to evaluate system interfaces, operational requirements, and performance requirements of overall system.
  • Define test methods and create test plans for new or updated software projects to determine if the software will perform accurately and reliably according to documented requirements as well as established standards under both normal and abnormal conditions.
  • Recommend design improvements or corrections to engineers throughout the development process.
  • Maintain effective communication with the project software engineers on project limitation, capability, performance requirement and hardware interface changes.
  • Execute test plans and create test reports to describe program evaluation, testing, and correction.
  • Conduct compatibility tests with vendor-provided programs.
  • Formulate and design software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.
  • Make recommendations to superiors regarding the acquisition and/or implementation of software to increase systems efficiency.
  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring and training staff as well as directing and managing employees in matters of software quality assurance policy, procedure and processes.
  • Assign work to direct reports, monitor performance, and conduct performance appraisals
  • Other duties as needed or required.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or information technology, or equivalent education and work experience.
  • 5 years of related work experience in Software Quality Assurance.
  • Experience working in Agile Scrum framework.
  • Experience using automated testing tools such as QuickTest Professional (QTP).
  • Strong experience with tools such as of MS Visio and MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
  • Experience in accessing and analyzing data with tools such as SQL.
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as SharePoint or Microsoft Team Foundation Server.
  • Strong understanding of planning, analysis and testing approaches required to support distributed application development.
  • Ability to manage a variety of skill sets and disciplines.
  • Demonstrated progressive levels of responsibility, experience and leadership.
  • High level of business management and facilitation skills.
  • Results- and Detail-oriented.
  • Self-disciplined and diligent worker; Highly organized.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work with all levels of the organization—both internally and externally.
  • Proven Problem Solving/Analytical skills; capability to resolve complex problems with minimum confusion, frustration, and inconveniences for all parties concerned.
  • Proven Decision Making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Required to attend additional training as requested/deemed necessary.

 

Preferred:

  • Certification as a Software Test Engineer (CSTE) or Quality Analyst (CQA) or similar qualifications is desirable.
  • Health Insurance industry experience is desirable.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively.  
  • Requires overall light physical effort (up to 25lbs.)
  • Manual dexterity and sitting is required in carrying out position own position responsibilities (i.e. use of personal computer).
  • Ability to travel or move about within and outside serviced facilities required.             
  • Incumbent works primarily in either a private or shared office environment.
