Position Title: Director, Product Strategy

External Description:

The Director, Product Strategy will be responsible for leading the identification, analysis, execution and support of strategic product development for new and existing markets, products and services across DentaQuest’s commercial and government product lines. The director will develop tailored product strategies and oversee tactical product plan execution designed to support the achievement of operating plan business and profitability goals for each enterprise business, including Commercial, Direct to Consumer, and Government segments.

This role will be an integral part of the enterprise-wide marketing function reporting into the Senior Vice President of Marketing and will oversee product portfolio strategy, product development, and product management. The Director will have responsibility for planning, guiding, and coordinating product strategy across a wide array of customers and markets throughout the organization in order to enable the achievement of established business and operating goals. The position is an essential component of the enterprise Marketing function and will collaborate closely with both the business functions and the innovation team.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Drive, build and execute product plans that help DentaQuest achieve its operating plan revenue, profitability and growth goals, including developing annual strategic product plans for each business center
  • Provide tailored strategic product support to senior leaders across Sales, Client Service, and Strategic Business Communications to achieve segment specific financial, membership, and customer experience targets
  • Identify, gain support, build and launch new products that create novel value for diverse DentaQuest customers across different product lines and markets
  • Track and monitor product portfolio key performance indicators to proactively identify problems and remedies, and optimize product performance
  • Manage products across the entire product lifecycle, and phase out poorly performing products
  • Closely collaborate with Sales, Market Research, Client and Member Services, Network Management, Finance, Operations and IT to identify and execute needed enhancements to existing products
  • Build strong and continuous business relationships with P&L leaders across Commercial, Government (e.g. Medicaid, Medicare and Duals), Direct to Consumer, and Vision product lines
  • Closely support Sales and Strategic Business Communications in RFPs, state and MCO procurements and re-procurements, including formulating meaningful value propositions, differentiated solutions and powerful presentations to help close the deal(s)
  • Represent product in various cross-functional business meetings and committees, including those responsible for strategic planning, financial performance improvement, customer experience improvement, brand enhancement, and other initiatives with strategic scope
  • Collaborate closely with other leaders across the Innovation function, including directors of business and clinical innovation, and director of business integration to advance innovation, business results and company culture
  • Develop a market intelligence capability that will maintain an understanding of key product trends, market drivers, competitive considerations and strategic alternatives for decision makers
  • Provide real-time support to the Sales, Client, Member and Provider Services, Operations and Dental Management organizations
  • Develop and foster collaborative relationships with senior executives and business leaders, including Sales, Strategic Business Communications, Client Services, Underwriting, Network, Marketing, Service and Operations, IT, Finance, HR, and Legal
  • Develop a team of three product professionals to effectively serve the needs of the business and provide leadership to develop organizational culture and climate of excellence
  • Maintain enterprise-wide leadership responsibilities and behaviors as an integral part of the management team
  • Other duties as needed, required and assigned

 Job Qualifications

Required:

  • BA or BS degree in business, finance, science, health, economics or another social sciences field
  • 12 or more years of marketing experience, preferably having played a significant role in successfully managing market strategy and planning, product development and product management
  • 5 or more years in healthcare, health insurance, life sciences, dental, or vision lines of business
  • Experience across commercial and government programs, including excellent knowledge B2B and B2C markets
  • Superior knowledge of healthcare industry and market trends, market research and analysis, market segmentation and competitive analysis
  • A leader, innovator, and entrepreneur of new ideas, ventures and progressive initiatives, who feels comfortable questioning traditional approaches, takes appropriate risks, and is enthusiastic about developing and implementing new ideas
  • Demonstrated ability to bring vision, strategy and actionable tactical plans, and does not hesitate about rolling up his/her sleeves and execute to deliver results
  • Experience developing go-to-market strategies for new businesses, products, services and markets
  • Strong general business, financial, marketing, and analytical acumen within the health plan, healthcare arenas
  • Superior communication, presentation and influencing skills across multiple audiences, including senior leaders
  • Ability to gain trust across all organizational levels to inspire change and stimulate and sustain action
  • Ability to lead strategic marketing initiatives by effectively navigating corporate-wide leadership buy-in and participation
  • Experience working, leading and performing within a matrixed business environment
  • Experience and comfort level interacting with senior leadership and Board of Directors
  • Ability to lead, develop and bring a team of product professionals to high performance
  • Ability to quickly assimilate into an agile and collaborative corporate culture and effectively integrate new ideas and systems
  • Attends additional training as requested/deemed necessary

Preferred:

  • MBA or Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience in a start-up setting
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts healthcare market
  • Good understanding of healthcare and consumer oriented technologies

Physical Demands

  • Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively.  
  • Requires overall light physical effort (up to 25lbs.)
  • Manual dexterity and sitting is required in carrying out position own position responsibilities (i.e. use of personal compute).
  • Ability to travel or move about within and outside serviced facilities required.            
  • Incumbent works primarily in either a private or shared office environment.
